Water leaks in the bathroom can be difficult to detect. If you think you might have a leak it is important to determine the source and take steps to fix it before it leads to long term damage. Leaks around the shower screen
Dry the area then direct the shower head at the joins between the screen and wall, then check for seepage. If the position of the shower head doesn’t allow for this, you may need to use a hose or other means of directing water onto the shower screen.
Tiles
A careful inspection of tiles on the floor and other areas may reveal signs of water damage or hairline cracks. Some indicators of water damage include white residue on tiles from water seepage. Cracks in tiles could be from them moving around due to having water underneath.
Grouting
Damaged grouting can give you a clue as to the source of leaks in your bathroom. Some of the signs of leaky grouting include cracks and broken or missing grout.
The shower
Your water leak may be coming from the shower itself. Test for leaks in the shower base by putting a plug in the drain and filling up the base. Make sure you use water from another tap to fill the shower – that way you’ll be able to tell if the problem is really the shower base or in the nearby plumbing. Once the base is full of water you should be able to see if anything is seeping out.
